The majority of top dressage horses are from bloodlines from western Europe, specifically northern Germany, Holland, and surrounding areas. Serious buyers from around the world go there to shop, and for good reason! It's the best dressage horse shopping in the world.
But shopping in Europe isn't without risk. It can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack of "not good enough" horses and those with behavioral or soundness issues carefully hidden. Many Americans unknowingly buy problem horses Europeans are happy to unload.
